Different paths to finish line for Seattle Treasure and Handsome Girl

Treasure Beach and Handsome Mike each added a romping winner to their ledgers yesterday, accomplished in different ways, and about 1,500 miles apart.

Treasure Beach’s winner was the 4-year-old Seattle Treasure, who raised his record to 4-2-6 in 28 starts with a 2 1/4-length score racing a mile and one-sixteenth over Woodbine’s all-weather track. The gelding bred by Just For Fun Stable sat in mid-pack with Rafael Hernandez and never left the rail, slipping through an opening in the stretch and drawing off at the finish. He boosted his earnings to $126,570.

Down south, Handsome Girl went the other way, using the outside route to win in a rout at Delta Downs, putting away her rivals one by one and cruising to the wire nearly 10 lengths in front. It was the second victory for the three-year-old filly, who paid $18; her check for $8,400 increased Handsome Mike’s 2019 earnings to $980,033 with just two crops at the races.
