Our Fantasy won at Gulfstream Park for the first time in her 38-race career on June 20 of 2020, by 6 1/4 lengths. Yesterday, the 6-year-old mare by Amira’s Prince won for the eighth time, this one in her first try at Delaware Park, by 6 1/2. In between, she won six other races – four at Gulfstream, by 5 lengths, 2 1/2 lengths, 2 lengths and 1 3/4 lengths; once at Gulfstream West, by 5 lengths, and once at Tampa Bay Downs, by 11 lengths. That’s a combined total of 40 lengths, an average of five per victory.
Yesterday’s effort under Jhonatan Mendoza was about as easy as it gets. The mare bred by Joe and Helen Barbazon broke seventh and last in the race at six furlongs and her rider began to move her up after a quarter in :23.37. Coming to the turn, Our Fantasy inhaled all but the pacesetter, then took care of that with an explosive run down the lane. She was clocked in 1:14.60 and paid $3.60 as favorite.
Our Fantasy collected a check for $11,400, raising her career bank account to $262,494 on a record of 8-9-8 in her 38 races.
