‘Pleasant good Friday afternoon’ for Galileo’s Affair

Gulfstream Park announcer Peter Aiello had a ball trumpeting the maiden victory of the 3-year-old Treasure Beach filly Galileo’s Affair in yesterday’s third race. After being soundly bumped leaving the gate in the one-mile race, the favorite was able to slip through along the inside with red-hot Luis Saez, and Galileo’s Affair quickly closed an eight-length gap on the turn. When she devoured the leader heading toward the stretch, Aiello chirped in with, “At one-to-five, Galileo’s Affair bids this field a pleasant good Friday afternoon. It’s all Galileo’s Affair running up the score . . . she’s an easy winner.”

The easy win wound up being by 11 lengths and was worth $16,500 for the filly bred by Joe and Kris Carroll. Galileo’s Affair finished fourth in the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes back in September and her earnings jumped to $55,240.

At Turfway Park, Nymue’s Treasure broke her maiden in her career debut, going wire-to-wire at six furlongs and prevailing by 3 1/2 lengths. The 3-year-old Treasure Beach filly gave her sire 17 winners, three in January thus far. She was bred by Ed Seltzer, Beverly Anderson and Pleasant Acres’ owners Joe and Helen Barbazon.
