High Lateen makes it 3 in a row under Herrera

High Lateen didn’t race at 2, and finished sixth in his first try at Gulfstream this year. But now he’s turned it all around and has won three in a row.

Diego Herrera was aboard for victory No. 2 on July 18 and repeated in No. 3, a $62,500 allowance optional claimer at a mile and 70 yards over the tapeta surface, a race that was taken off the grass. The 3-year-old Neolithic gelding bred by DeLuca & Sons Stable out-gamed even-money favorite Redland Rebels to the wire by a neck and considering his record, paid a generous $13, clocked in 1:39.97. He earned a check for $35,750 and has now banked $96,330.
